"The Call of an Armorer"

I am a person who will always appreciate a good piece of armor. Not only will a good piece of armor potentially save your life, but you can also customize it to your liking! However, how many people have ever considered becoming an armorer?

That thought never really crossed my mind, not until this past week. On my day off from all the senate work I need to do, I decided to read through the Holonet. As I glanced briefly over all the news and advertisement, I noticed a certain section under the title of: Is being an Armorer your true calling?

Like any sane person, I just had to investigate. After all, how many opportunities does one get to check out a potentially new field of work? I just had to know whether my true calling was to be an armorer rather than senator!

I skimmed over the bullet points to the section to see if being an armorer was my next path. Here are my thoughts.

The first point was: must have some knowledge of how metals or other potential armor materials work. Well, personally, I don't know a whole lot about metals and other materials… should I? Well, if I was to be an armorer, my job would be considerably easier if I had that knowledge under my belt. After all, you really would not want to be causing problems when you accidentally blend two metals that should not be combined at all. Better safe than sorry.

The second point was: must have a sense of precision and good eye to hand coordination. As a former assistant master to the weapons training class, I feel that I should have rather good precision. Well, I might not hit all of my intended marks, but surely, it can’t be that bad in the field of armory… right? Well, perhaps it is. From what I’ve heard of when working with armor, one must be cautious when working with heating and forming armor. It is what all true armorers must know.

The third point was: have an understanding of the armor (and possibly even weapons) you create. From what I gather, an armorer must be able to understand how to properly use the items they create. After digging around to find more regarding this topic, I discovered that some believe this to be part of the sacred art of being an armorer. Others simply believe it to be common sense. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered an armorer who doesn’t wear their own armor. I would think it to be a sign of success to wear armor that I have made!

Well, after reading those three main points, I was left to wonder: should I become an armorer? There were times when I felt like I could have the potential, and other times when I thought I did not. At the end of reading, I have decided that I shall remain where I am in life. I might not make a particularly talented armorer, but what about you? Do you have what it takes to master this form of art?
