"A Meeting with a Bothan"

The most interesting people come my way on a daily basis. Sometimes they come with the most difficult problems, though it seems simple at the start.

This person came to me for help from the Temporary Ambassador of the Galactic Republic, rather than the Supreme Chancellor. It was rather refreshing to be able to focus on that aspect. Imagine my surprise when my guards ushered in a person of the Bothan species.

While there are a good amount of Bothan around the Galaxy, they are more scattered than they once were and I had never met one personally. It was high time that I did. I welcomed Gliv'le Omhe warmly and asked what I could do for her.

Like all Bothan, she had a beard and I could see that she had taken time to look her best for this meeting, as it was brushed and braided, which was quite unusual, from what I have heard.

She was dressed in a sort of uniform and her fur was a brindle coloring. Her eyes were steel grey and serious.

Obviously, I won't go into the specifics of the conversation, as it was confidential, but the basic concept was that she hoped to be employed by the Galactic Republic in a certain capacity. Long ago, the Bothan clans were allied with the Galactic Republic and her clan was interested in returning to that state.

It was an interesting proposition and I was highly tempted to accept right then and there.

But there were details to consider before accepting. For instance, Bothan fur changes colors with their moods, so I had read, and the job that she desired would make it problematic. It requires some subtlety and not showing her hand all the time and I worried that her fur would give her away. But first I wanted to know if it was true. I asked Omhe about it and as I did, I saw with my own eyes how the tips of her fur turned darker!

It was true!

Personally, I found this fascinating, but I also knew it would make it difficult to give her what she wanted.

Omhe had an air of dignity and of subtle danger. I felt she would be a great asset and I would love to have a clan of Bothan back, working with the Galactic Republic once more. As long as I am not sending them straight into jeopardy that must end in tragedy.

The Bothan are tough, skilled and must be treated with respect if we are to rebuild a relationship with them.

At the same time, I must consider all of the people in the Galaxy, not simply one clan. Though I feel strongly that each individual is important and should be given due consideration, if possible.

I am looking, currently, for a different way they can serve that will satisfy them and serve the Faction.

It's not easy. Have YOU ever met a Bothan. ARE you a Bothan? If you have any wisdom to share, I would welcome it!
