It's funny how things change and twist over time. The mind has a hard time holding on to things the way they really were. And if you were never there to see the real thing in the first place . . well, it's even more creative!
I certainly discovered that lately!
As you know, I am a proud member of the Galactic Republic Faction, but I have an open perspective and a deeper appreciation for the other Factions, as I began life, believing myself to be of the Jedi group.
It wasn't until I left the farm and went to Coruscant, seeking aid for Orphans that I learned more about the different Factions and realized that I was more in line with the Galactic Rebulic way of life, that I knew what I really was and changed.
So I began to research the origins of the Galactic Republic to see how WE had changed and grown and - I got completely sideswept by some - rather odd things.
As I simply walked from one building to another, I found out some surprising things about what was once called the 'Old Republic'.
Did you know that it has MANY different definitions?
Allow me to list the ones I came across.
1. As per MY understanding, the Old Republic was the government before the Empire took over. It is really not the same as the current Faction, just bearing part of the same name.
2. I walked by an old man sitting outside of his house, and a couple of women at a shop nearby said that HE was called 'The Old Republic' because he judged everyone and everything that he saw, considering himself the main law.
3. Later, I took a stroll in the Governmental Building, to clear my head and went to the kitchens for a snack. On my way back, I heard children playing and followed the sounds, as it was much more fun then my long-winded holos. Believe it or not, the children were playing a game called 'Old Republic!' where one person was 'It' and would offer up nonsensical suggestions which the others would either yell out support for or call down their wrath about. If they all hated the ideas, they would then 'Execute' the 'It' kid, by tickling them until they called their surrender.
Interesting.
It seemed a remarkably accurate description of the Old Republic, as I had read of it - only it had less tickling in it.
I wonder what we will be called when the historians look back on our time. The OLD Old Republic? The Golden Era? The Time of Toothpicks? Nah, surely not. In any case, I will do my best to make my time here the best it can be for the good of all.
Although I may take that tickling punishment into account . .
How about the rest of you? How do you want our time of history to be remembered as? And what can you do to make that happen? I find the idea a little daunting - but very exciting, too!
