Blog No.69
They had met before, briefly, I was certain, but it had been a while. I smiled and bowed my head, then gestured to the seat. "Arcadia, what a delight. Thank you for taking the time from your undoubtedly busy schedule to chat with me and allow me to ask you some questions. If you would like some water, just let me know. Now let's get started! Can you tell me which planet you originate from and something about that?"
Arcadia: “Hello, Ms Alloine. I would absolutely love some water. These interview things get a little nerve wracking, I’m sure you understand. I originate from Coruscant, with my mom, but then as I grew up, my dad had custody over me. When I lived with him, we hopped from place to place, never really staying anywhere for too long. We’d often stay in the ship. It was easiest if we had to make a quick getaway! My dad had a lot of enemies back in the day. Now, I’m proud to say I’m back on Coruscant, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s much nicer to sleep in your own bed compared to sleeping on a pad in a ship.” She laughed, leaning forward with her elbows on her knees to talk to Tessa.
Tessa: "Ugh. I couldn't agree more. But then, I don't enjoy shipflight under any circumstances, so I'm not sure that counts. I'm glad that you're well settled.
Of course, it is common knowledge that you inherited your family's large ammunitions factories and business. What was it like, running it at such a young age?"
Arcadia: She sat back up, and clapped her hands once. “Oh, yes! What a great question, Tessa. Is it okay if I call you Tessa? Honestly, it was easy work. It’s stuff you pick up incredibly quick once you know how to do it. I had always worked on the paperwork side of things when I lived with my mom before her passing, and the workers at my factory taught me how to make some of the ammunitions and such. The hardest thing about the work was nobody taking me seriously, since I was so young. You take out a bomb and suddenly everybody tends to listen.”
Tessa: "Goodness! I would imagine so. I know a little about that. When I first became Chancellor, the council that elected me figured I would just let them do everything since I was a farmer who didn't know anything. They were a bit surprised when I proved them wrong, but it wasn't easy. I could have used your charisma. Now, in your your work, you travel a lot and deal with some . .let's say . .tough individuals. Have you any advice for those who may be traveling also and finding themselves in tricky circumstances?
Arcadia: “Make sure you always have a quick getaway and at least two backup weapons. If your blaster stops working, pull out a bomb or an electro staff as a substitute so you always have some way of defending yourself. I’ve also found changing your appearance often helps quite a bit. They’re not always hostile if they can’t recognize you.”
Tessa: Isn't carrying a bomb with you a little . . dangerous? I suppose you'd know how. Your business has prospered! Are you hoping to continue to expand? What is the future for your company, as you see it? Especially among rumours that a 12 year old is currently overseeing it?
Arcadia: “We’ve already got quite a few factories all over the galaxy. I’m sure we could continue to expand, but I’d like to give some of the new up and coming factories a chance. I was there once too,” She winked, grabbing her water and taking a sip. “The future, as I see it, is in the hands of the newer generation, and that’s why the rumors are true. He is an incredibly capable young man, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the time he spends running it. Or, you know, hopefully not burning it to the ground.”
Tessa: Hopefully not, indeed! I do know that he is very capable. He was the Galactic Republic Prime Minister for a while. Lastly, would you mind giving us a demonstration of your skills? It can be related to your product or something else entirely. Up to you.
Arcadia: “Absolutely, I would love to!” Arcadia stood up, walking over to her bag in the corner, pulling out one of her new colored smoke bombs and two pairs of goggles. “I brought this one just for you. It’s a brightly colored blue. It will fog up this whole place blue, but luckily it won’t stain anything.” She handed Tessa a pair of goggles. “It’s best if you put these on.” After she had done that, she slammed the smoke bomb as hard as she could onto the floor. As the bomb started to spin, spewing out smoke, the room was colored blue.
When the smoke cleared out, she took a bow. “Thank you so much for having me, Tessa. Come out to Arcadia’s Ammunitions any time you’d like. That goes out to you too, listeners! I love you all. Kisses!”
I croaked out a goodbye once I had finished coughing. I couldn't tell if she was even still in the room, what with all the smoke! It WAS pretty, though. Definitely would make an excellent smoke screen. That lady is very cheerful for an ammunitions maker. I am amazed that she is married to our Piloting Master. In any case, once we open the windows and flush out all the smoke, we'll be able to get back to business.
