Here is Katharine Jackman, to bring you a that section that will be published monthly.
Today I have taken as a reference Skywalker's family, since I have found several themes related to them. So, let's see which of them you know and which you don't.
We all know that Luke Skywalker is considered the quintessential Jedi Knight, right? But what many do not know is that he had a truly luxurious assistant. Mark Hamill, an actor who plays Skywalker, was trained by Bob Anderson, a Hollywood fencing specialist. He also had to don the Darth Vader suit to shoot the combat scenes in Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI- Return of the Jedi. Anderson's participation was highlighted in the documentary ‘Reclaiming the Blade’ where he shares his experiences with the use of the lightsaber.
Something curious, only possible thanks to the advancement of technology, is that in the Blu-Ray version of ‘Star Wars: Episode VI- Return of the Jedi’ there is a surprise for fans of the saga. In the final image after the victory over the Empire, Luke Skywalker looks at the horizon and sees the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda… and (only in this version) that of a very young Anakin Skywalker played by Hayden Christensen.
Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber was made to resemble the one used by Luke Skywalker in the classic trilogy. Therefore, both designs are canonical. Such is the value of this lightsaber wielded by Luke, that it was auctioned and sold on December 11, 2008 for $ 240,000. Don't underestimate the force!
For Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith, when Anakin Skywalker finally decides to become Palpatine's apprentice to save his love, the metaphor of Faust was used. Faust is a German legend based on a scholar dissatisfied with his life, who decides to exchange his soul with the devil in exchange for worldly pleasures and total knowledge.
Actors don't always enjoy fame, and this was the case with Jake Lloyd, the very young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. There were many criticisms that he received so, after his role, he decided to retire from acting in 2001. In 2012, he decided to explain the reasons for his retirement. He suffered harassment from his classmates and it caused him a lot of stress to attend to the obligations that the movie promotions required. He claimed that during the years that he was bullied by his classmates, in his desperation and constant stress he destroyed all of his Star Wars memories. Currently, he refuses to see these movies due to "creepy" memories of him, as confirmed by the actor.
The Skywalker family was originally going to be called Starkiller, but George Lucas thought it sounded too aggressive. In fact, one of the first drafts of Return of the Jedi, ended with Luke picking up the mask of his father and proclaiming himself the new Darth Vader. Can you imagine Luke at the Dark Side??
I hope you liked this section and that you have learned something new about Star Wars!
